William Arnold Costello, known as "Red Pepper Sam", was a versatile American performer who brought to life iconic characters on screen and airwaves. As the original voice of Popeye the Sailor in animated cartoons, he helped shape the beloved character's enduring legacy. Prior to his starring role, Costello showcased his talent behind the drums with the Fred Waring Orchestra, while also lending his distinctive voice to Gus the Gorilla on the Betty Boop radio show.
