Yu Hua is a renowned Chinese novelist, essayist, and short story writer born on April 3, 1960, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. His breakthrough came with the release of "On the Road at Age Eighteen" in 1987, earning him recognition as a prominent avant-garde writer. His novels To Live (1993) and Chronicle of a Blood Merchant (1995) were widely acclaimed, cementing his reputation as a leading literary voice in China.
