Jana Mashonee

Biography

Jana Mashonee is a singer, songwriter, actress, author, and philanthropist from Robeson County, North Carolina, with Lumbee Tribe roots. Born Jana Sampson, she was introduced to music by her father, a singer and drummer, and adopted the surname Mashonee, meaning "money belt" in Lumbee English. A two-time Grammy nominee and nine-time Nammy winner, her R&B-infused music has earned widespread recognition.
