Smoki Whitfield was an African American actor and musician born Robert Whitfield on August 3, 1918, in Pittsburgh. He attended the University of Oregon, where he showcased his athletic prowess as a star athlete and made appearances in school plays. In the 1950s, Whitfield appeared in the Walt Disney miniseries "The Swamp Fox," playing Oscar Marion and singing the series' theme song.
