Sumiko Minami was born on February 24, 1931, in Saga Prefecture and began her career as a actress after working at Tokyo's East Yokohama Department Store. She debuted in 1952 with a role in "Wind's Rumors" and went on to star in notable films such as "Female Beautician Rope Discipline" (1981) and "Eight Hours of Terror" (1957). Minami later transitioned to free agency after joining Toei Doga.
