Gustav Leonhardt

Biography

Gustav Maria Leonhardt was a Dutch keyboardist and conductor born on May 30, 1928, who led the historically informed performance movement to perform music on period instruments. A prolific musician, he played various instruments, including harpsichord, pipe organ, and claviorganum, and conducted orchestras and choruses. He made his debut as a harpsichordist in Vienna in 1950 and was a professor of harpsichord at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1954.
