Matsumoto Hakuō I was a renowned Japanese kabuki actor and tachiyaku, widely regarded as the leading male role specialist of post-war decades. He appeared in numerous stage productions, including "Chushingura" (1962), where he played the iconic role of Chamberlain Kuranosuke Oishi. A member of the Koraiya guild, Hakuō took on various stage names throughout his career, eventually retiring under the name Matsumoto Hakuō I.
