Walter Cartier

Biography

Walter Cartier was a Bronx-born boxer and actor of Irish ancestry, whose family surname had been altered from McCarthy. A professional boxer after World War II, he fought against four world champions, including Gene Hairston and Bobby Dykes. Cartier's acting career began when Stanley Kubrick featured him in his 1951 film debut, "Day of the Fight", followed by a long-running role as Private Claude Dillingham on The Phil Silvers Show.
