Biography

Vojtěch Jasný was a Czech director born on November 30, 1925, in Kelč, Moravia. He gained prominence in the sixties with his Cannes-winning film "Až přijde kocour/The Cassandra Cat" (1963), an allegorical fable about a magical cat that reveals the underlying nature of its town's inhabitants. Jasný also directed "Všichni dobří rodáci /All My Good Countrymen" (1968), a story about rural Czechs struggling under communist rule, and taught film at Columbia University and The School of Visual Arts.
