Frederick Ashton

Biography

A renowned British ballet dancer and choreographer, Sir Frederick Ashton co-founded The Royal Ballet in London after being encouraged by Marie Rambert to try his hand at choreography. He became chief choreographer to Ninette de Valois from 1935 until his retirement in 1963, leaving a lasting legacy as the creator of a distinctively English genre of ballet. Ashton's notable works include Façade, Cinderella, and The Tales of Beatrix Potter.
