Ross William Ulbricht is an American former cybercriminal and darknet market operator, born March 27, 1984. He created and operated Silk Road, the first modern darknet market, from 2011 until his arrest in 2013. Convicted of multiple crimes, including narcotics trafficking and conspiracy, he was sentenced to two life sentences plus 40 years without parole.
