Sonny Barger

Biography

Ralph Hubert "Sonny" Barger Jr., born October 8, 1938, was a founding member of the Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels in 1957 and became the club's most prominent figure during the counterculture era. He unified disparate charters, had the club incorporated in 1966, and was rumored to be the international president, though this was repeatedly denied. Barger served 13 years in prison for heroin trafficking and conspiracy to bomb a rival club before his 2022 passing.
