Jean Lenauer

Biography

Jean Lenauer was born in Vienna on August 9, 1904, and began his career as a film reporter and critic in Paris at the age of 19. In 1935, he arrived in New York City with a critically acclaimed adaptation of Crime and Punishment, which became a hit at the Cinema de Paris theater. Lenauer went on to establish the Filmarte Theater, showcasing international films for an intelligent public, but it ultimately struggled financially.
