Hiromasa Yonebayashi

Biography

Hiromasa Yonebayashi is a Japanese animator and director born in 1973 in Ishikawa Prefecture. He made his directing debut with Studio Ghibli's The Borrower Arrietty and became the youngest director of a Studio Ghibli film, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature for his follow-up film When Marnie Was There in 2015. After leaving Studio Ghibli, Yonebayashi co-founded Studio Ponoc with producer Yoshiaki Nishimura, marking a new chapter in his career as a director.
