King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom
Biography
King Edward VIII, born Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David on June 23, 1894, was the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George V and Queen Mary. He became King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, on January 20, 1936, but abdicated just 12 months later. The new king's impatience with court protocol and disregard for traditional monarchy led to his dramatic downfall. He died on May 28, 1972, as the Duke of Windsor.
