Biography

Wallis, Duchess of Windsor, was an American socialite and the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, former King Edward VIII. Her marriage to Edward, who was still married to his first wife at the time, sparked a constitutional crisis in the UK and led to his abdication in 1936. After Edward's abdication, they married six months later and he was made Duke of Windsor. She was a prominent figure in European society until her death in 1986.
