Ivan Gaal

Biography

Ivan Gaal was a Hungarian-born Australian filmmaker and Olympic athlete. Born in Budapest in 1938, he excelled in wrestling and canoeing before emigrating to Australia as a refugee in 1957. In the early years of his career, Gaal won the Australian Canoe Championship and was selected for the Rome Olympics, although due to funding constraints, he did not attend. He later worked with the Australian Broadcasting Commission and Department of Education.
