Sylvie Vartan was born on August 15, 1944, in Iskrets, Sofia Province, Bulgaria, to a Bulgarian mother and Armenian father who worked as an attaché at the French embassy. Her early life was marked by displacement due to Soviet occupation, leading her family to move to Paris in 1952. Sylvie's transition to France and discovery of music, particularly jazz and rock 'n' roll, became pivotal to her career.
