Luchino Visconti
Biography
Luchino Visconti was a renowned Italian filmmaker and theatre director born into a noble Milanese family in 1906. He began his career as an assistant to Jean Renoir in France and made his directorial debut with the neorealist film Ossessione in 1943, which would later be recognized for its unvarnished depictions of working-class characters. Visconti's subsequent films, such as Senso and The Leopard, cemented his reputation for historical melodramas that explored themes of beauty, decadence, and European history.
