Beau Sia

Biography

Beaufort Benjamin Sia, a Tony Award-winning slam poet, was born in Ohio to Chinese-Filipino immigrants and raised in Oklahoma City. He discovered spoken word poetry on MTV as a teenager and later attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. As an Asian American, his cultural identity became a prominent theme in his poems, leading to notable performances at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and a spot on the 1996 National Poetry Slam team.
