James Chance

Biography

James Chance was a pioneering American saxophonist and musician, born in Milwaukee in 1953, who played a pivotal role in the New York music scene in the late 1970s. He was a key figure in the no wave punk rock movement, leading bands such as Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and James Chance and the Contortions. Chance's innovative fusion of improvisational jazz and punk influenced a generation of musicians. He passed away in 2024.
