André Derain
Biography
André Derain was a French artist, painter, sculptor, and co-founder of Fauvism, alongside Henri Matisse. Born in Chatou, France in 1880, Derain began studying on his own in 1895 and later attended painting classes under Eugène Carrière, where he met Matisse. His work transitioned from riotous colorism to a more austere style, influencing the Return to order movement after World War I.
