Charleen Swansea

Biography

Charleen Swansea was a poet, teacher, and publisher from North Carolina, known for her work with Ross McElwee in several films. She was a protégée of Ezra Pound, who tutored her in translating Latin, French, and Chinese poetry. Swansea founded the influential "Poets in the Schools" program and Red Clay Reader, which was later adopted as a national model, earning her the Fortner Writers Award and an honorary Ph.D.
