Biography

Marvin (Ted) Thin Elk, Sr. was a Sicangu Lakota Sioux actor who spent his life on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He rose to prominence through his involvement with the Lakota Treaty Council and the Grey Eagle Society, earning him the title of chief. Thin Elk's breakout role as Grandpa Sam Reaches in the 1992 film Thunderheart earned him a First Americans in the Arts Award, recognizing his contributions to Native American arts.
