Yusef Salaam

Biography

Yusef Salaam is an American politician and activist serving on the New York City Council, representing the 9th council district since 2024. A member of the Democratic Party, Salaam was a teenager wrongly convicted of rape in the 1989 Central Park jogger case and later exonerated. He has become a prominent voice on issues of social justice and reform. Salaam's work continues to advocate for the rights of the wrongly accused and marginalized communities.
