Nicole Maines is an American actress, writer, and transgender rights activist. As a teenager, she was the lead plaintiff in the Maine Supreme Judicial Court case Doe v. Regional School Unit 26, which led to the court's historic ruling on transgender students' bathroom access. She gained recognition for playing Nia Nal on The CW's Supergirl, becoming the first transgender superhero on television.
