He began his career in the arts, graduating from a technical school and joining a theater troupe in Osaka, where he developed his signature melancholic persona. Iinuma went on to appear in numerous TV dramas, including "部長刑事" and "新選組血風録," and voice-acted in anime, including "もののけ姫" and "ゲド戦記."
