Nia DaCosta

Biography

Nia DaCosta is an American filmmaker born on November 8, 1989, in Brooklyn's Harlem neighborhood. She rose to prominence with her feature-length directorial debut Little Woods (2018), a crime thriller that earned her the Nora Ephron Prize. DaCosta became the first Black female director to debut at No. 1 at the U.S. box office with Candyman (2021) and the first Black woman to direct a Marvel Comics film with The Marvels (2023).
