Biography

John Wesley Carlos was a groundbreaking athlete and activist, known for his bronze-medal win in the 200 meters at the 1968 Summer Olympics, where he famously displayed the Black Power salute on the podium with Tommie Smith. He later tied the world record in the 100-yard dash and set a new record in the 200 meters. A track coach and author, Carlos was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2003.
