Shukur Burkhanov

Biography

Shukur Burkhanov was a Soviet stage and film actor of Uzbek ethnicity, recognized as a People's Artist of the USSR. Born in Tashkent in 1910, he defied his family's orthodox religious beliefs to pursue a career in acting, receiving training at the Moscow Art Theatre. As one of Uzbek cinema's earliest stars, he was typecast as a rebel, while also receiving numerous awards for his performances, including multiple Orders of Lenin and the People's Artist of the USSR title.
