Biography

Anselm Kiefer is a German painter and sculptor, born on March 8, 1945. He drew inspiration from Paul Celan's poetry and spiritual concepts of Kabbalah, incorporating themes of German history and the Holocaust into his work. Kiefer's artistic style, characterized by unflinching confrontation with his culture's dark past, was shaped by his 18-year-old tour of places associated with Van Gogh and the poet's "Todesfuge".
