Steven Soderbergh (born January 14, 1963) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, and editor who pioneered modern independent cinema. His breakthrough film Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989) won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and numerous accolades, launching his career as a notable presence in the industry. Soderbergh's subsequent films, including Traffic (2000), Ocean's trilogy, and Contagion (2011), garnered critical and commercial success, earning him an Academy Award for Best Director.
