Charley Lau
Biography
Charley Lau was a Major League Baseball catcher and hitting coach who began his career with the Detroit Tigers, spending three seasons before being traded to the Milwaukee Braves in 1961. He adopted a contact hitter's batting stance during his time with the Baltimore Orioles in 1962, earning a .294 batting average and six home runs that season. After releasing him from the Braves due to injury concerns, Lau attributed his early retirement to steroid injections for an injured throwing arm.
