He co-founded the intellectual discussion group Sonntagskreis with notable intellectuals like György Lukács and Károly Mannheim in 1915. Balázs collaborated with Béla Bartók on the opera libretto for Bluebeard's Castle, which marked an early connection between him and the composer.
