Joseph William Gilgun was born on March 9, 1984, in Chorley, Lancashire, to Judith and Andrew Gilgun. He grew up in Rivington, Lancashire, as part of a working-class family, and began drama workshops at eight, showcasing exceptional talent. Gilgun's early roles included appearances in Coronation Street and This Is England, before transitioning into television adaptations such as Emmerdale and Preacher.
