Biography

František Vláčil was a Czech film director and artist known for his exceptionally high art quality films. A graduate of Masaryk University's faculty of Arts in 1951, he later worked on animated films before focusing on live-action cinema. Vláčil received numerous awards, including the Prize of the International Film Festival 1998 and the Czech Lion Prize for his contributions to world film culture. His most celebrated work is the highly acclaimed film Marketa Lazarová.
