Sergei Filippov

Biography

Sergei Nikolayevich Filippov was a Soviet and Russian film and stage actor and comedian born on June 24, 1912, in Saratov. After being expelled from school for bad behavior, he found success as a ballet dancer before transitioning to the theater, joining the Moscow Ballet and Opera Theatre troupe and later becoming one of the leading actors at the Saint Petersburg Comedy Theatre. Filippov gained popularity in film roles, including "Tiger Tamer" and "12 Chairs," before being diagnosed with brain cancer, which led him to continue acting until his death on April 19, 1990. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1974.
