Biography

Douglas Rain was a Canadian actor and narrator born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Scottish parents. He studied acting at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Old Vic Theatre School, and co-founded the Stratford Festival of Canada, with which he was associated for over four decades. Notably, he voiced HAL 9000 in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968) and its sequel "2010: The Year We Make Contact" (1984).
