Biography

Gaëtan Dugas was a Canadian flight attendant who, despite being the subject of widespread speculation, was not confirmed to be the originator of the North American AIDS epidemic. In 1984, a study tracked his infection, which was later found to be part of a larger cluster of cases. Dugas died in Quebec City in 1984 due to AIDS-related complications. Genetic analysis later revealed that he was not the sole source of HIV in the United States.
