He is known for his hit song "Marching Forward" in 1990, which sold over 400,000 copies, and for his work on film scores for directors Hou Hsiao-hsien, Jia Zhangke, and Bi Gan. He has received numerous awards, including the 2015 Cannes Soundtrack Award for The Assassin.
