Biography

Maria Angelita Ressa is a Filipino and American journalist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, born on October 2, 1963, in Manila. A prominent critic of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, she was arrested in 2019 and convicted of cyberlibel in 2020, a move that drew international condemnation. She is the co-founder and CEO of Rappler and a professor of professional practice at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.
