Biography

Nobuo Nakamura was a renowned Japanese actor known for his notable roles in films by Akira Kurosawa and Yasujiro Ozu, including the callous deputy mayor in Kurosawa's Ikiru (1952) and the henpecked husband in Ozu's Tokyo Story (1953). He also had a distinguished stage career, founding the Bungakuza company in 1937 with Haruko Sugimura and others, and playing leading roles in works by Yukio Mishima. Nakamura performed in various theatre companies, including NLT and En Theatre Group, before his passing in 1991.
