Biography

Richard Harris is an Australian cave diver and retired anaesthetist who has served as the lieutenant governor of South Australia since 2024. He gained international recognition for his crucial role in the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in Thailand. Harris has also achieved notable feats in the field of cave diving, including diving to 284m and breathing hydrogen as a diluent gas on a rebreather. He was awarded Australian of the Year in 2019.
