He gained recognition for his roles as Alexander Brandtner in the Austrian/German series Kommissar Rex (1998–2001) and Corporal Wilhelm Wicki in the 2009 film Inglourious Basterds, among others. Burkhard has also appeared in US productions, including Alarm für Cobra 11, a long-running German television series.
