Biography
Pierre Chenal was a French director born on December 5, 1904, in Brussels. He was a pioneer of social realism in French cinema, known for his documentaries and adaptations of literary works, including the thriller "L'Alibi" (1937) and the film noir "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1939). Chenal fled occupied France in 1942 and continued to work in film noir, with notable films including "Raid on the City" (1958) and "The Beast on the Prowl" (1959).
