Roeland Wiesnekker was born on November 25, 1967 in Zürich, Switzerland. A music-loving family member encouraged his interest in acting, inspired by Charlie Chaplin, and he later became a hospital nurse before working at a soup kitchen for the homeless. He studied drama at the Schauspielakademie in Zürich from 1986 to 1989 and was nominated for the Deutscher Nachwuchsschauspieler des Jahres award in 1990.
