She rose to prominence with her lead role in Pedro Almodóvar's film "Entre tinieblas" (1983), which followed her portrayal of Yolanda, a singer who takes refuge in a convent after a tragic loss. Sánchez Pascual also appeared in Almodóvar's earlier films, including "Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón" (1980) and "Laberinto de pasiones" (1982).
