Richard D. Winters

Biography

Richard D. "Dick" Winters was a decorated American Army officer and veteran of World War II, serving with Easy Company, 101st Airborne Division, during the Normandy campaign. He led a small group of paratroopers in a daring attack on a German artillery position, earning the Distinguished Service Cross, and later commanded Easy Company during the campaign. Winters also played a key role in the Battle of the Bulge and was an important source for accounts of the war.
