María Isabel Díaz Lago was born on July 4, 1964 in Spain. She graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte and began her acting career with a role in the play La Rueda de Casino in 1982. Her breakthrough came as a "mother" in Alejandro González Iñárritu's 2006 film Apocalypto, followed by appearances in Pedro Almodóvar's Volver and the TV series Locked Up.
