Gwen Watford was a talented English actress who made her professional London debut at 18, spotted by John Gielgud while still a schoolgirl. She won two BAFTA awards for best television actress and appeared in notable films like Cleopatra and Cry Freedom. A frequent presence on British television from the mid-1950s onwards, Watford was dubbed one of the country's leading ladies.
